During July we’re focusing on God’s revelation. Please see the Monthly Prayer Focus page to read our strategic prayer request for this month.

I just returned from attending only one day at the North American Christian Convention (NACC) in Anaheim, CA, where the Restoration Movement fellowship of churches gather to share in worship, compelling speakers, Bible studies, and more. The theme for the week was “A Better Story” and emphasized that “God can write a better story in your life, if you’ll just be willing to give Him the pen.”
That theme of God’s better story for your life hit a chord in this time of my life. God’s been directing me towards spending more time in the mornings reading the Bible and journaling so that I would have more opportunity to hear His leading. I am allowing God to reveal His plan and direction day by day by giving Him the opportunity to reveal things.
What does giving the pen to God mean when the rubber hits the road? Well, I think it means asking God, “What do You want me to do?” when I am at a time of decision, and waiting and expecting to get an answer from Him, in His time. I ask God to lead me at the start of each day. I devote time to reading God’s Word and praying with the goal of getting to know Jesus more and more, so that it is easier to understand the things He asks of me. I recognize and realize that Jesus gave me His Holy Spirit to guide my life, and to glorify God in my life.
God’s revelation for me is not lightning bolts and thunder but instead ordinary “pen and paper.” I’ve learned to “read” God’s direction in my day to day. Take this week. I was wondering if I should drive down to Anaheim to attend the NACC. I knew if God wanted the NACC to be a part of His better story in my life, then He would make it clear and guide me. I waited and listened. Finally, on Thursday I found out that PBT friends on furlough were there, as well as a church friend. I was also nearly finished with my current work project. I felt God encouraging me to attend on Friday. Then God went with me on my journey by obviously blessing my trip in various ways. I might not realize the full reason for my trip to the NACC, but I trust God as He writes my story.
Our prayer for the PNG communities with which PBT works is that God will show them how to support their translators and vernacular schools and motivate and empower them to do so. We are also praying that He will show us our part in this. When we are open to God writing our story, then He will indeed make it clear to us how to do what we are asking.
