How does Jesus show Himself to the world? One powerful way is through His love. He is Love, and He works through His people around the world as they actively love those around them.
A few weeks ago, I participated in speaking on a panel with five other missionaries during a church service. The theme was John 3:16. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (NLT) The ministries of each of us six missionaries were all varied and concentrated on different needs around the world and at home. But we realized after all the missionaries spoke that a strong theme emerged: how God “speaks” through us about Christ as people see His love in us in action. One man cared for the needs of a homeless woman in Kentucky; another showed the love of God and encouraged a persecuted believer in Africa; another man planted a church in America by showing the love of God to a neighborhood and meeting needs; another showed the love of God to a man of another belief in Asia searching for the truth; and a woman pleading to understand God’s Word clearly is shown God’s love when I live in her country and spend time to typeset her translated book so God can tell her He loves her in her own language.
What can you do for someone today so that God can show them Christ’s love through you? Make yourself available to God, minister to someone, and he or she will see God’s love and ask, “What makes you go out of your way to help?” And you can tell them, “Jesus!”
